Discussion
Currently there are many systems and applications that handle
Electronic Healthcare Records (EHRs). Over time these have been deployed
worldwide.
Many systems and applications have been targeted to support Healthcare
Practitioners. This is necessary for
Practitioners but it is not sufficient
to handle all Healthcare-related information for
individual Patients.
Practitioners provide services to Patients,
and Patients are in the best position to
evaluate the services tendered. Hence,
Healthcare records that do not include Patient
created and updated Healthcare-related EHRs are incomplete and
potentially incorrect.
This project will attempt to accomplish the following:
-
perform Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) so that
information contained in dissimilar EHR systems and
applications can be shared.
-
Patients can create and update EHRs using
standard and unique record formats.
-
information contained in the EHRs can be filtered and
structured under Patient control to produce
indormation subsets that can be transmitted to specific
Practitioners and individuals.
-
Security mechanisms supporting strict Patient
control will be developed.
